Our Commitment to Sustainability and Resiliency
At K2 Development Companies, we are committed to supporting real, tangible change in the sustainability and resiliency of our communities. In one example, we are reversing the old adage "pave paradise and put up a parking lot" by replacing an outmoded parking lot with a urban park with abundant trees, plants, and other amenities for all of the community to enjoy.
For many years, we have focused on infill redevelopment based on smart growth principles, with the goal of improving vacant, underutilized, or blighted properties in a way that benefits the community and the environment.
We believe in responsible design that considers the needs of future generations and works towards a more sustainable future for all. We are dedicated to ensuring that our structures are resilient in the face of climate change. To this end, we include renewable solar energy in every project and strive to achieve net zero energy usage on our projects.
Our commitment to sustainability is recognized in many of our designs that have achieved a GreenPoint rating, which measures the environmental impact of our projects. We also regularly exceed many Title 24 energy requirements. We prioritize bike and pedestrian-oriented projects, making sure that our housing is friendly for those who choose to bike or walk. Wherever possible, we collaborate in public-private partnerships to improve off-site pedestrian and bike infrastructure, directly reducing the amount of vehicle miles traveled, which decreases greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere.
At K2 Development Companies, we are committed to ensuring that we do our part to preserve or plant new trees, which reduces the urban heat island effect, increases the sequestration of carbon dioxide, and provides a natural habitat for many native animals. We believe tall old growth trees are key to ensuring the success of our community's tree canopy, not only for their environmental benefits, but also for their important aesthetic contribution to each project.
Our approach to development is based on a mix of building types and uses, diverse housing and transportation options, development within existing neighborhoods, and robust community engagement. We strive to create a more economically prosperous, socially equitable, and environmentally sustainable future for all the communities that we serve.
